Comments: Mainly native to southern Europe. Its range is large and mainly comprises countries to the north and east of the Mediterranean Sea. It is found in the wild in France, Italy, Switzerland, Hungary, Albania and eastern Servia. It reaches a height of 35-60 cm. Its flowers are 9-13 cm. wide, magenta or deep red, with wide-spreading, obovate petals. It flowers from late spring to early summer. It is hardy up to -25°C.
